![]() Basically if I want a really simple comp, I use the stock Logic comp. I honestly only use a UAD 1176 plugin on like vocals or some drum applications. I really like the stock compressor, it sounds good on most things and doesn't use a ton of processing power which is a huge plus. I also extremely dislike the stock Gate, I've never been able to use it without getting frustrated so I just removed it entirely. Like I don't like the Channel EQ, I noticed it colors the sound even with the EQ on flat, I don't remember exactly what it was doing as it's been a long time since then. I like some of Logics stock plugins and I absolutely HATE others. How relevant that is depends in the context of many other things. IMO in short: the UAD one can offer something the Logic one doesn’t. It’s not that it’s subjective (which in a certain way definitely is), but that there are a lot of variables to begin with. On the other hand, the best faithful and vibey recreation of a 1176 won’t ever save a track that wasn’t played well or recorded badly. ![]() Granted, their tracks will have been recorded through great gear played by good musicians. Old Waves and stock Pro Tools plugins are also still used by studio legends. One could do years of work with just the logic ones and that work still turn out perfectly acceptable. And not every studio had the same classy bitching console to mix records, and yet things got released successfully. Another variable is not all seasoned professionals like to depend on the same gear nor do they have the same criteria for how something should sound. Other times it is less relevant, especially if you find another way to process the track. Sometimes that difference would be great to have and add something the other one doesn’t. If comparing just the two, the UAD plugin versions do something the logic ones don’t (and viceversa I guess). This is also true if no plugins existed and one were to strictly compare different hardware versions. Sometimes a particular one doesn’t work like another one would. If you'd like to give a hand please:Įach different plugin version of a piece of hardware offers something else. It's really not much work at all, we are still relatively small-sized. But we do have a very comprehensive set of automoderator filters, which catches comments and posts that require manual approval. Unlike some other subreddits, this one has very few user reports (ie: maybe once a month). OK with using Discord (to communicate with the team). The sub has gotten a tiny bit big to handle by just one person, so if you spend a fair amount of time on this subreddit (or at least reddit in particular) and meet most of these requirements: Looking for professional mixing or mastering services? This is also the right place for that (check our listings first!). Also NO gear/software troubleshooting) Would like feedback on your track? You've come to the right place (NOT the place for promoting your music). Have questions about the craft of mixing? (NOT recording. This subreddit is about the stage of music production that involves mixing all the individual tracks of a song together.
